What Is Family Practice ?

Family Practice is one of the newest specialties in medicine. The extensive three-year residency training enables the family physician to treat more than 90% of illnesses and to provide continuing medical care to the entire family. Family physicians have advanced training in pediatrics (including newborn care), adult medicine, geriatrics, gynecology, psychiatry, minor surgery, dermatology and uncomplicated orthopedics. With a focus on preventive medicine, they know not only how to treat your illness, but how to keep you healthy as well.

The certified family physician must pass a comprehensive examination given by the American Board of Family Practice. And because Family Practice is one of the few specialties that require recertification every six years, you know that you are getting a physician with up-to-date medical knowledge.

Services Provided

Complete physical exams, sports & school physicals, immunizations, blood drawing and pap smears are all done routinely in our office. Since urinalyses, cultures and simple blood tests are performed right in the office lab, results are usually available the same day or overnight. If an outside laboratory is used, our direct printer from the lab allows us to have results within 24 to 48 hours for routine tests.

So What's Really Unique ?

Many offices now have their medical billing computerized, but at Kingstowne Family Practice we additionally have our patient medical records on computer. Patient history, examination, diagnosis and treatment are entered directly into the computer by Dr. Leonidov at the time of your visit. This makes your chart immediately available for reference should your treatment plan need to be altered or your prior medical findings require review; there is no waiting for the transcriptionist.

The Patient Records module we use chronologically lists each patient's medical problems, medications, allergies, vital signs, progress notes, lab results and health maintenance records. Prescriptions are printed by computer; this not only insures that the pharmacist can read the prescriptions correctly, but also results in a computerized record of the script for reference.

Other than the obvious advantage of having an electronic medical profile, our computerized system allows access of patient charts from off-site locations and use of physician resources via the Internet.

Hours of Operation

Although the office is closed on weekends, we have evening hours twice weekly for our patients' convenience.

Tuesday:2:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday:8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m.

Appointments

Patients are seen by appointment only, and we request that you call in advance so that we may reserve a time for you. Same-day appointments are often available. In emergency situations, immediate appointments may be arranged. We truly believe that your time is valuable, and make every effort to stay on schedule. However, on some occasions certain medical situations or emergencies will take precedence. We ask for your understanding in these situations. We will make every effort to inform you of any known delays. Similarly, if you should need to reschedule an appointment, please call us at least 24 hours in advance so that we may arrange to have your time used by another patient.
